Campaign for A JUST RI

The Center envisions a Rhode Island in which criminal justice is transformed into a less punitive system that decriminalizes addiction, mental illness, and poverty; prepares individuals and communities for re-entry; and seeks to mitigate the collateral consequences of conviction and incarceration.

A JUST RI will administer criminal justice in a fair and equitable manner; it will safely decrease the prison population, by using effective community-based treatment and diversion strategies; and it will ensure that justice-involved Rhode Islanders have access to housing, income, and the opportunity to thrive.

We have a lot of work to do to achieve this vision. The Center’s Campaign for A JUST RI will change the local conversation about criminal justice through technical assistance, training, policy research, and promoting meaningful collaboration among criminal justice stakeholders and advocates.
