Shivani Nishar
Shivani graduated from Brown University in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science. During her undergraduate studies, she concentrated on childhood trauma, minority mental health, and the promotion of healing within formerly incarcerated communities. She worked as a research assistant at Butler Hospital, focusing on adolescent borderline personality disorder, and led Brown’s chapter of Project LETS, a national nonprofit grounded in Disability Justice principles.
In her last year at Brown, Shivani partnered with the Amos House and Transitions Clinic to adapt a commonly used mental health crisis tool in order to meet the needs of formerly incarcerated folks who are re-entering and re-building their communities in RI; that work ultimately led her to working at the Center!
