AmeriCorps VISTA Team

The Center is home to the Health & Justice in RI AmeriCorps VISTA team. Our VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) team members are a vital capacity-building resource to local community-based organizations and state agencies that serve individuals involved in the criminal legal system and/or impacted by the opioid crisis.

During their year of service, VISTA members on our team work to:

  • support the development of community-based prison reentry strategies
  • expand access to healthcare and reentry services for currently and formerly incarcerated Rhode Islanders and people with opioid use disorder
  • expand access to overdose prevention training and naloxone distribution in Rhode Island
  • help to facilitate layperson rescues of victims of opioid overdose
  • build capacity for juvenile hearing boards across RI
